The Rev. Douglas David Barclay

Pastor Douglas Barclay was called as Trinity’s 10th pastor in April of 2020. He was grew up in Pennsylvania and has lived in Baltimore, Philadelphia, Boston and New Haven.

He earned his B.A. in music from Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, focusing on piano and organ performance. He served for nearly a decade as a Director of Liturgy and Music at The Shrine of the Sacred Heart and St. Mary’s Seminary and University in Baltimore, MD. He also served briefly as interim director of music at Christ Lutheran Church, Inner Harbor and then at University Lutheran Church in Philadelphia, PA. A lifelong Lutheran, it was during that time he felt his calling to public ministry and attended the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. In addition to an Master of Divinity he holds a graduate certificate in liturgy from Washington Theological Union. While pastor at Concordia Lutheran Church in Manchester, CT he was part of the formation of a faith-based community organizing in Hartford, CT which focused on housing justice, anti-racism, and intentional interfaith action. He also served on the synod council, the Lutheran-Roman Catholic dialogue and other ecumenical and interfaith groups. Currently, he is a member of the ELCA’s task force to develop a social statement on the relationship of the church and state and civic engagement. He is a member of Proclaim, the professional community for Lutheran ministers and candidates, who publicly identify as LGBTQIA+
